Last Call for Strawberry Picking!

Good morning friend!

It’s Friday, June the 3rd and it’s time once more to give you an update on where everything is here on the Farm.

Here is what I’d like to cover in this blog post.

• The state of the PYO patch here in early June
• The state of the Tomato crop
• Upcoming New Jersey Blueberry trip
• Sweet corn in a few weeks
• Some info about Fall (Especially for School Teachers)

So, without any further ado, let’s jump right in.

The PYO Strawberry Patch

It’s been a good strawberry season. Early on we were concerned with the amount of rain we were getting. However, we were quite blessed to be missed by a number of big storms at critical times.

And Yes we are still open for picking strawberries. We are definitely nearing the end of the season so the picking is more scattered and you’ll have to pick through some overly ripe fruit. However, there are still a bunch of really nice strawberries coming out of the patch every day.

If you’re waiting to pick, I’d definitely recommend that you stop waiting. It’ll be another 11 months or so till the patch is fresh and ready to open again. 🙂

Hours are still Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. till 7 p.m. and we are always closed on Sundays.

We’ll let you know on Facebook and Instagram when we do finally close the patch and return to our normal hours. (Links to both Facebook and Instagram will be at the end of this post.)

Tomatoes – Heirloom and Regular Greenhouse Tomatoes

Although we’ve been picking our regular hydroponic tomatoes from our greenhouses for several months, within the last week or so we’ve started picking heirlooms as well.

There is simply nothing better on a hamburger at a summer evening cook out than a nice slice of tomato. If burgers aren’t really your thing, you can always dice a tomato up and put it on a salad.

Tomatoes are such practical and versatile things!

Blueberries Coming Up

A bunch of you have been asking when we are planning to make our runs North for blueberries. The answer to that question is that it depends… but here is the general schedule.

Sometime around June 20th we’ll open up for orders. (We’ll post this on Facebook, Instagram, our website and email those who are subscribed to our list as well.)

Then over the next two or three weeks we’ll make a couple of trips for your blueberries. You’ll be notified a day or so in advance so that you can be ready to come and pick your order up as soon as possible after we return.

So, if you get our emails… or follow us online we’ll do our best to make sure you find out the details for that.

Sweet Corn

Sometime towards the end of June we will also start picking sweet corn. We’ll likely have sweet corn available till into July a ways.

Again, we’ll keep you up to date on that on Facebook and Instagram.

Next Up is the Fall Season!

Once the blueberry trips are over and we finish the sweet corn season we’ll mostly be getting ready for the Fall corn maze and pumpkins season. (As well as preparing the field for strawberries and then planting them.)

Obviously we are far enough out from the Fall that we don’t know a lot of the details surrounding the Fall season yet. We do know a few though, we do plan to have a corn maze and plenty of pumpkins. 🙂

And we plan to once again host field trips.

If you are a teacher (or if you know a teacher) who would be interested in details about our Fall field trips, please head over to the field trip page and sign up for that specific email list. This is a special email list just for notifications about Fall field trips.

Once we open our Fall schedule for field trip bookings we tend to fill up pretty fast. The first people who find out when we open for field trip bookings will be those on that email list.

Facebook and Instagram and the Email List and the Website

To wrap things up I thought I’d touch on the different ways we interact with you, our customers, and how we view each different method. Sometimes it can be a bit difficult to know if you’re missing something or not, so let’s see if we can clear everything up.

Facebook and Instagram: On both Facebook and Instagram we share the “day to day” details of what’s going on at the farm. Mostly as a reminder of what’s going on at any given time and its a good place to be able to ask/answer questions. If anything comes up (say we’d need to close early, or there are special hours, or things like that) we’ll use both of these platforms to announce those kinds of things.

The Email List: We view our email list as a way to communicate “bigger things” to you. Beginnings of seasons. Upcoming events. Ends of seasons. And an occasional email to say hello and keep you up to date with where we are season wise here at the farm. We try to send few enough emails that they don’t get annoying but enough to make sure you are well informed.

Wrapping It All Up

Well, I think that’s enough for one post. In fact it might be enough for two posts!
