Why Hello There!
I hope this update finds you and your family well!
We’ve really enjoyed the last day or two of cooler weather… Fall seems to be in the air. 🙂
Speaking of Fall – We are working hard to prepare for a great fall.
From the looks of things we have a few busy, but interesting months ahead!
Here is what all I want to cover in this post.
- The end of our “Spring” Produce season.
- Family Farm Day – Fall.
- The Fall Corn Maze.
- The Fall Pumpkin patch.
- Tomato plants.
- Strawberries for next Spring.
But, before we get too carried away we’d like to say thank you.
When we stop and think about the number of people who have been here on the farm this Spring to support our Strawberry, Tomato crops, and the various activities – it is quite humbling.
We simply couldn’t do this without each one of you!
Your interest in locally grown, gourmet produce is what keeps us relevant.
So thank you for being awesome!
Greenhouse TomatoesThe End of our “Spring” Produce
Because we try to have off season and early produce, our Spring produce season is almost over.
We do have a few plants still producing fruit. The following things will be available for the next week or two.
- Quite a few Heirloom tomatoes
- A small assortment of melons – Canary, Sprite, and Honeydew
- The last of the greenhouse tomatoes
We have set the store room up on the honor system (cash and check only), so feel free to stop in and help yourself.
If you have any questions feel free to call Delvin at (434)-401-4016.
Fall Field Day – PumpkinsFamily Farm Day – Fall
Last fall we had our first Fall Family Farm Day. The turnout was really great!
So… We are planning to have the second Fall Family Farm Day this fall.
We are still working out the details, including the date. Most likely the event will either be the last Saturday in September or one of the first two Saturdays of October.
Stay tuned for more news along these lines.
The Corn Maze
This year we are doing something new. We have just finished cutting our first ever Corn Maze.
We plan to open the Maze the 21st of September.
For all the rest of the details about the Corn Maze, you can head over to the new Corn Maze page on our website. We should be adding information there in the coming weeks as the time gets closer and closer… 🙂
Fall PumpkinFall Pumpkins
You may have gotten one of our pumpkins last year… if you did you may be glad to know that we will have pumpkins again this fall!
The pumpkins have been growing for the past few weeks. They are looking really good!
We are not entirely sure when the pumpkins will be ready, but should definitely be by the end of September or early October – just in time for all of your Fall decorating needs!
Tomatoes
Our tomato season may be ending right now, but we are already getting ready for the next installment of Tomato growing.
In fact we have a whole load of plants that are about 8 to 10 inches tall.
We hope to be picking ripe fruit from them some time in October.
Strawberry Planting for next Spring
Strawberries are never far from our minds either.
We are also working towards preparing our fields to plant Strawberries for next Spring.
The new beds should be laid some time in August and we hope to plant the new Strawberry plants in September…
Then all we have to do is keep them fed and happy through the winter… survive the frost during the early Spring… and then we should have plenty of beautiful berries again!
Conclusion
Well folks, that’s about it for this update.
We look forwards to seeing you all in the coming months!
